OneWheel Electric Skateboard Injury Attorneys in Pittsburgh
Lawsuits Against Future Motion Inc. for Unsafe Products
At Friday & Cox LLC, we are investigating reported defects and injuries involving electric skateboards manufactured and sold by OneWheel and Future Motion. At the height of their popularity as products for transportation and recreation, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has either recalled or approved a recall of both, starting with a September 2023 recall of OneWheel electric skateboards. The recalls were prompted due to mounting reports of serious injuries and even fatalities caused by apparent defects in the products.
Consumers who were injured or lost a loved one due to an electric skateboard defect may be able to file a product liability lawsuit – and Friday & Cox LLC in Pittsburgh can help. We are trial-tested attorneys who are backed by extensive legal experience and a long history of impressive case results won for our clients, either through settlements or court awards, so you know you can trust your OneWheel injury claim or lawsuit with us.

Dangers with OneWheel Electric Skateboards
OneWheel electric skateboards are designed with a pushback system that is meant to improve safety by automatically slowing the motor down when the board is traveling too fast, or the motor is under too much stress. This feature allows the rider/operator to ease into deceleration. Ironically, though, this safety feature appears to be the root cause of some of the worst OneWheel electric skateboard accidents. Many riders have reported that the board suddenly shuts itself off when they are traveling at higher speeds, throwing them off the board due to the instant loss of momentum.
Another dangerous defect with the OneWheel electric skateboard and Future Motion electric skateboard is a reported issue with the battery’s lifespan. When the battery gets low, the board is supposed to lift the front, so it naturally slows down. Like the pushback defect, it appears that a defect with the battery system can cause an abrupt shutdown with no warning, creating a significant – if not unavoidable – risk of being thrown off the board.

Liability for Defective Electric Skateboards
Through product liability laws, OneWheel and Future Motion can be held liable for the harm and dangers created by their products. All product makers have a legal obligation to only design, manufacture, and sell products that are reasonably safe and that do not put consumers at undue risk of injury. If a defect of any kind results in the injury of a consumer, it is only right to hold that product maker responsible for the damages and losses.
Different types of defects that could come into play for an electric skateboard lawsuit are:
- Design: It might be revealed that a flawed design with the electric skateboards is the direct cause of the pushback system and battery system failures.
- Manufacturing: A problem with the manufacturing process might have caused the electric skateboards to be made dissimilarly from the intended design, resulting in defects.
- Failure to warn: If the packaging and safety instructions included with the electric skateboards did not explain the pushback system or low battery system clearly enough, it might constitute a negligent failure to warn the consumer about the potential risks of the product.

OneWheel Skateboard Lawsuit FAQ
Have lawsuits been filed against OneWheel already?
Consumers have already started to file lawsuits against OneWheel for injuries caused by the apparent defects of the company’s electric skateboard product.
Is there a class action lawsuit against OneWheel already?
A class action lawsuit – which bands hundreds or thousands of plaintiffs into one plaintiff class to speed up the legal process – has not been formed against OneWheel. However, it is feasible that a court will approve a class action soon. National sales data show that tens of thousands of potentially dangerous products have been sold across the country, so there could be just as many potential plaintiffs.
How much do your OneWheel lawsuit attorneys charge?
We proudly offer contingency fee agreements for clients who were hurt by unsafe products. Under this payment system, you won’t have to pay any attorney fees unless we win the case for you. If we do win, the payment will be based on a percentage of any settlement or award, so it is never more than you can afford, either. This system makes it practically risk-free to pursue a OneWheel injury lawsuit.
Should you stop using your OneWheel skateboard?
The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has advised consumers to stop buying and using OneWheel electric skateboards and Future Motion electric skateboards after issuing a recall for each. It is not recommended that you or your child should keep using a OneWheel skateboard for any reason.
