Many TBIs caused by construction workers' accidents

In Pennsylvania, hard hats are worn to protect workers from suffering head injuries. However, they cannot prevent traumatic brain injuries if employees walk around without them on. Construction workers' accidents can cause life-changing brain injuries to unprotected workers. However, hard hats do not prevent all brain injuries on construction sites.

GM agrees to settle after another auto defects probe

Following several other settlements, automaker General Motors Co. recently agreed to yet another one. This time, the company will settle a state attorneys general auto defects probe in all 50 states into what is deemed to be the mishandling of a defective ignition switch that apparently caused many injuries and numerous deaths in Pennsylvania and other states. GM will pay $120 million in settlement of this latest case.

Nursing home neglect claims may soon have to go to arbitration

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services is reviewing proposed changes to regulations related to the handling of complaints about nursing homes nationwide, including in Pennsylvania. New regulations may see claims of nursing home neglect or abuse going to arbitration and not to a court. While nursing homes say this will be less time consuming and costly than litigation in a court, victims of neglect may be worse off.

Maker of pacifier clip may have to face products liability claim.

Although the Consumer Product Safety Commission strives to protect consumers in Pennsylvania and other states from harm caused by defective merchandise, not all dangerous products are identified before they are introduced to the market. It is not uncommon for recall action to be taken only after consumer injuries have been reported. Many of these incidents lead to products liability lawsuits.

Products liability claims may follow recalled fitness gear

It is the responsibility of all manufacturers to ensure that the products they manufacture and sell are safe. They must identify potential safety concerns before introducing products to the market. Disregarded or overlooked defects can put consumers at risk of injury and may expose the company to products liability action. Dick's Sporting Goods, a company with several stores in Pennsylvania, recently announced the recall of one of its products that have caused injuries to consumers.
