Many construction workers' accidents involve falls from heights

Nearly every Pennsylvania industry has its hazards, and employers are required to implement mandated safety precautions and procedures to prevent employees from suffering serious or fatal injuries. In the construction industry, this involves protecting workers from falls. Even so, far too many construction workers' accidents involve falls from which the chance of survival is often questionable.

Investigators are still attempting to figure out how a 59-year-old man fell while working on a building conversion in a neighboring state. Reports are unclear as to whether he fell four floors or from the sixth floor to the fourth floor. What is clear is that he suffered severe head trauma and was rushed to a hospital in the area where he succumbed to his injuries.

He worked for a subcontractor installing the windows and facade at the old Domino Sugar Factory located in Brooklyn. At the time of the accident, the developer stopped all work in order to facilitate the investigation into the man's death. While officials investigate, the victim's family is left to find their way without him.

As is the case in construction workers' accidents here in Pennsylvania, the man's family will more than likely be eligible for benefits from the workers' compensation system. Surviving family members could receive benefits to help with funeral and burial arrangements, along with additional benefits to provide some compensation for the loss of his income. Families facing these tragedies might benefit from consulting with an attorney to ensure that they receive all of the benefits to which they might be entitled after such tragedies.
