Construction accidents dotting Pittsburgh with tragedy, injuries

With the warmer weather, construction crews are all over Pittsburgh. Some are repairing roads, others are erecting buildings and still other workers are renovating homes. With the surge in construction work inevitably comes an increase in construction injuries and bump in Pennsylvania workers' compensation claims.

Scanning the news, we quickly found a number of articles about construction accidents that left workers injured, and in one case in Wilkinsburg, left a 35-year-old worker dead.

Officials are not yet sure how the fatal accident unfolded. The man was operating a lift when he became pinned beneath a Wilkinsburg underpass. Paramedics rushed to the scene but were unable to revive him with CPR.

The crew he was on was doing repairs on Port Authority bridges.

Another incident occurred when a worker fell about 10 feet from a beam in the Strip District. He was hospitalized in stable condition with a head injury, officials said.

And yet another injury was sustained when a worker was trapped in a partially collapsed trench in Lawrenceville. Officials said the crew wasn't following trench-construction safety procedures and that the man sustained injuries to his lower body after being buried up to his waist in rocks and dirt.

These incidents clearly illustrate some of the many construction work dangers. When someone is later denied workers' compensation benefits, financial problems pile right on top of serious medical issues. That's when many injured workers turn to an experienced Pittsburgh workers' comp attorney for legal assistance to pursue the compensation they need and deserve.
