Insert Form A into Slot B...

The instructions for appealing a workers' compensation decision by the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry are like many instructions from the government. Ostensibly to help, they often serve to hinder. Designed to be clear, they can instead be cluttered with legalese, acronyms, codes and awkward wording.

Hittin' The Road with Friday & Cox--Hollidaysburg, PA

In representing our clients, we travel around Western Pennsylvania from Pittsburgh to Erie to Smethport to Bellefont to Bradford and beyond on a daily basis.  While driving around, I (Paul G. Mayer, Jr.) try to take a minute every once and awhile to appreciate the beautiful scenery and interesting people of our Commonwealth.  In "Hittin' the Road with Friday & Cox", I'll give you the highlights.  Hope you enjoy it.

Municipality held not liable when student killed at allegedly dangerous bus stop

A federal judge in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania decided that a municipality will not be held liable for the death of a student who was killed by a vehicle as he crossed a road to reach his bus stop.  In the case of Estate of Viola v. Township of Bensalem, a student was killed when he attempted to cross a busy intersection to wait for his school bus.  At the time of the accident the intersection's predestrian crossing signal button was broken.  Unfortunatley, the intersection was not manned with a crossing guard at the hour of the death.

Pennsylvania safety products maker fined for unsafe workplace

A manufacturer of ventilation, duct and fire safety products in Montgomeryville, PA has repeatedly been cited, warned and fined by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration about exposing workers to a wide variety of hazards.

Reservation of Rights Notices Must be Provided to Every Insured

A reservaton of rights notice is a letter sent by the insurance company to its insureds (those covered under the policy) acknowledging that the insurance company is aware of the claim and are investigating it.  The letter explains that all or part of the claim may be denied coverage for various reasons (it "reserves" the insurance company's right to later deny coverage).  All insureds should receive timely notice of this potential denial of coverage so he or she can adequately protect his or her interests.
